Four years ago a cat named Chris started spinning at a little club called Akbar in Silverlake, CA. His buddy Terry Lee ran the door and helped spread the word about the new night. It was called The Rocksteady Lounge. It wasn’t a big spot but was perfect for what he was spinning.

“The Upsetter: The Life & Music of Lee Scratch Perry is a feature length documentary..
I like the Rocksteady 7 stuff. I think it is something that no one else is doing. It’s raw and dirty and evokes feelings of lost 60’s Skatalites improvisations. It’s rare that Dave gets to do much which this troupe since he’s always on tour with the Slackers. So when he does get a chance to stretch out and blow his horn it’s a welcome adventure. Featuring the legendary Larry McDonald and an all-star collection of players this is a rare and indeed welcome aural experience for those that get the chance to hear it. Too bad we’re gonna miss it this time around here in Southern California.
