The Revivers Back from the Dead

Riverside’s The Revivers features a mash-up of past and present musically and personal-wise. The band, who have been playing off on on for more than a few years, brings together the soulful singing pipes of the Debonaires’ original lead singer Tony Greene and present members of the current incarnation Mano Mirande (guitar), Mike Presser (guitar), Tom Cook (organ), Mark Cummings (bass) along with young lion Brent Lobo (drums).

Their dedication to ‘reviving’ the sounds of early Jamaican Reggae from the late 60’s and early 70’s is never in doubt and can be heard in their authentic renditions of classic hits and obscure rarities.

Regrouping in 2009, they have already shared the stage with such Reggae legends as Michael Rose, The Mighty Diamonds, Ska pioneer Eric ‘Monty’ Morris, as well as contemporary favorites Hepcat, and The Aggrolites – further bridging that gap from the past, the present and to the future.

They were recently given the honor of being the backing band for The Wailing Souls, Ras Michael, and Angelo Moore of Fishbone.

They also announced they will be releasing a 10″ vinyl record (along with a CD version) shortly. This is their first release of any kind and I’m not sure if they are putting it out themselves or thru someone else – stand by for details. I’m looking forward to this new release in any case. The times they have played live has been really well received.

A string of shows and tour – the most prolonged collection of appearances in what might be their whole existence – have already been booked for October & November. Upcoming dates include Oct 15 @ Mission Tabacco Lounge w/ See Spot in Riverside & Oct. 16 @ Ska Wave at Bar Melody.

Here is a recent video with great sound, too bad about the video darkness though. Enjoy anyway!

I've been involved in the Los Angeles music scene since at least 1995 going to shows, promoting, spinning records and running labels. Ska and Early Reggae are my passion among other things of course.
