The Gaylads Together Again

The Gaylads Together AgainThe Gaylads made some of the sweetest Rocksteady rhythms ever. Their music helped to shape the era and their recordings have continued to bring pleasure to fans of Jamaican music for years. But as they years rolled on they went their separate ways as usually happens. BB Seaton over the last couple of years has gotten busy a little more releasing tunes on his Soul Beat label among other things.

Then last February a video was posted to youtube showing the Gaylads reuniting with original band leader BB Seaton for the first time in 40 years and working on a new tune! Amazing right. Check out the clips.

December finally saw a 7″ single release of the tune featured in the videos. It was recorded at Tuff Gong and Tree Top studios, Kingston with a truly wicked set of musicians. The recording features Derrick Stewart on drums, Boris Gardiner on bass, Dwight Pinkney on guitar, Robbie Lyn on piano, Chris Brewer on sax all mixed by Errol Brown.

Gaylads Together Again SingleOut now on 7″ records is “Together Again/ Version” (Soul of Anbessa Records/ and available at Ernie B’s. You can also of course see them live in Los Angeles at the Echo on Saturday March 9.

Friend them on Facebook here.

Here is a photo montage of them creating the new tune.

I've been involved in the Los Angeles music scene since at least 1995 going to shows, promoting, spinning records and running labels. Ska and Early Reggae are my passion among other things of course.
