The Beatdown Vs The Corporation: Sweet Musille

You might not have heard about One Night Band from Montreal (that’s in Canada) but they were pretty good. Had a few catchy songs and did some touring. The Aggrolites’ Brian Dixon produced their album Hit & Run even.

That band is on a break right now but singer/guitarist Alex Giguere has taken the time off to record new material. It’s been released on the same label as ONB, Canada’s amazing Stomp Records. If the video they’ve posted recently is any indication it’s got a distinctly vintage feel for fans of The Aggrolites, Intensified (which I’ll see next week!) and The Impalers. The Beatdown is here to make you dance!

Check out the new video for a little stomper called “Sweet Musille”.

In case you didn’t recognize the tune it’s a cover of The Corporation’s tune of the same name. It was originally released as the A-Side on the Grape (Trojan) label (GR 3022) in 1970. Not a bad updating either. It sounds a little more uptempo for sure. Reminds me of The Specials updating any number of vintage tunes for their debut. It sure me want to find out more from the band.

Here is the original for your listening pleasure.

So what do you think of The Beatdown? Promising? or not?

The Beatdown’s first album is available now from stomprecords.com, Itunes, Amazon & Interpunk.com

You can find The Corporation’s version on The Trojan Rare Groove Box Set.

I've been involved in the Los Angeles music scene since at least 1995 going to shows, promoting, spinning records and running labels. Ska and Early Reggae are my passion among other things of course.
