Niney The Observer To Make Stop In LA Wed May 14
As a producer, artist, and label owner, Niney The Observer was one of the main architects of the classic reggae sound of the 70s. Any reggae collector is familiar with that classic Observer Eye logo staring out at you from a heavyweight 45.
It’s no accident that the great reggae re-issue label Blood and Fire took their name from one of Niney’s biggest tunes, which must be one of the most dread pieces of music ever recorded. Other Niney cuts like Jah Fire, In The Gutter, and Mutiny have a similar combination of tough, original rhythms, and prophetic, passionate lyrics. As a producer he worked with the cream of the crop: Dennis Brown, Heptones, Max Romeo, not to mention his many collaborations with the dub trickster himself, Lee Scratch Perry.
Blood and Fire is his most well known cut inspiring countless cover versions and record label. It was originally released on Big Shot of all places in the UK. One of the real gems found on the label in fact along with Judge Dread’s many tunes.
The same musicians who created these classic records decades ago – The Soul Syndicate band with Fully Fullwood on Bass, Tony Chin on Guitar, Santa Davis on Dums, will be on hand to play them once again live and direct! Fully has been holding down a Reggae party every Sunday in Hungtinton Beach and has bad many of his old and new friends drop in from time to time on support. This will be great to see em all back together again.
This is a real one of a kind show, one that we have been wanting to do for years. Hope to see YOUR face in the place.
