Itals’ Lloyd Ricketts Passed Away

Itals: Keith Porter, Ronnie Davis & Lloyd Ricketts

Various Reports say original Itals and Terrors singer Lloyd Ricketts passed away last Thursday July 21 in Jamaica. Born Lloyd George Ricketts born on Sept. 23, 1947 and went on to play with various groups over the years but always a true Ital.

The Itals formed in 1976 around the vocal harmonies of Alvin “Keith” Porter, Ronnie Davis and Ricketts, recording numerous albums in the ‘70s and ‘80s and consistently scoring chart hits in their native Jamaica. 1985 LP Rasta Philosophy also received international acclaim and was nominated for a Grammy. Around that time Ricketts was given a prison sentence and, unable to travel, was replaced by David Isaacs.

After over 20 years of not being able to obtain a visa to perform in the U.S., Ricketts was finally able to reunite with the group to perform at two festival shows last month including the Chicago Folk & Roots Festival. United Reggae Online posted this story announcing the reunion shows back in February.

Here are some videos including one of his other groups The Terrors:

I've been involved in the Los Angeles music scene since at least 1995 going to shows, promoting, spinning records and running labels. Ska and Early Reggae are my passion among other things of course.
