I’m Going To The London International Ska Festival

London International Ska FestivalEver since it was announced I’ve been scheming to try to find a way too get my flight paid for to go to the UK for the London International Ska Festival. Never been to London of course and if there was ever a time to make it happen with a perfect reason this was it. Four days, over 30 of the world’s top Ska and Reggae artists and dj’s in one place at one time. This was like Coachella on steroids for me. I dislike Coachella and these other huge festivals. At most there are maybe 2 to 3 must see acts, 5 or 6 total that would even be interesting. But this? This is 4 days of nonstop music and passion for me.

As the day’s have gone by and the window to get flights have dwindled my hopes of finally leaving the states for a trip to London seemed hopelessly lost. The London International Ska Festival would have to go on with me. I’m sure it would do fine but it wouldn’t be the same though. Well dreams do come true. I must have saved some babies of some sort somewhere cause the gods of Ska music have shined upon me. I’m going to the really big show!!!

I’ve only seen 2 of the bands on the show – Ken Boothe and Dave Wakeling. The Trojans and Intensified are 2 of my favorite acts ever. Some of the bands are reforming just for this show including The Loafers, Skaos and The Hotknives. Dub Pistols! Dave & Ansell Collins! The Lee Thoomposon Ska Orchestra! After this the only bands that are must see for me are The Gorillaz and Prince Buster. My bucket list will be done.

So yeah it’s gonna be an amazing time for the next couple of weeks. I’ll be doing regular posts leading up to the event and most likely live tweeting and blogging throughout the weekend.

This is brought to you by the letters D and B as in David Brown the producer behind the web show This Is Ska. It’s due to him having extra flight miles that we both get to make this happen and for that I am going to have to name my first kid after him which is fine. It’s worth it. Brown Lawless has a nice ring to it, right? Check out his show as much as you can.
