Harder They Come Musical 2012 Tour
Remember the Harder They Come musical from a couple of years ago? It went down great in London at the time. Well it looks like the producers of the show have plans underway to take it globally in 2012-2013.
The website for the stage production says this: “Coming to theatres across the globe in 2012 and 2013! In celebration of these milestones in Jamaican history, UK Arts International is bringing their acclaimed stage musical version of The Harder They Come to theatres across the globe in a double-anniversary spectacular!”
They are calling it “The 50 Years of Independence Tour” which seems fitting as next year is exactly that – the 50th anniversary of Jamaican independence. Every one of my readers will of course know this but just in case: On August 6th 1962, Jamaica gained independence from the UK. Ten years later, in 1972, Perry Henzell’s The Harder They Come exploded Jamaican culture onto the world stage and changed the fortunes of the island forever.
Here’s a link to a 2008 piece from United Reggae about the stage production that’s worth another read.
Here is the original promo clip video promoting the run…
and check out this video of Jimmy Cliff stepping in on one of the shows to sing the title track of the film/musical.
Keep up with this new production via their websites:
