Death of the “Boss Skinhead” 4th Anniversary

LA-SuperstarI somehow missed this anniversary date from Friday but am making up for it here with this special tribute image. You’re surely missed El Padrino!

Laurel Aiken was born in Cuba on April 22, 1927 and died of a heart attack on July 17, 2005 in England.

He had hits in pretty much every era of Jamaican music from pre-ska calypso through the skinhead style of 69-72 and even proto-roots with “Haile Salessie” and “Lion of Judah” cuts.

He continued to record and release music into the 80’s having found a new fanbase of the UK 2 Tone fans.

He was of course the true “Boss Skinhead” and “The Godfather” who I was proud to meet on his all too few trips to Southern California.

I've been involved in the Los Angeles music scene since at least 1995 going to shows, promoting, spinning records and running labels. Ska and Early Reggae are my passion among other things of course.
