Chicago’s Jamaican Oldies Weekend in Video

Jamaican Oldies Weekend Chicago 2012If you couldn’t make it to the Jamaican Oldies Weekend in Chicago back in November like us it’s nice to know we have YouTube and cell phone cameras (unless you happen to live in LA where these things happen all the time like us). Geez what was the world like before that time?

Duff Guide to Ska interviewed Jump Up’s Chuck Wren about the weekend. He talked about the doing something special for the 20th anniversary of his label, why he decided to focus more on the traditional artists rather than more of the newer crop he’s known for and what are some of his plans going forward.

The weekend featured 4 nights of entertainment which started on Thursday Nov 15 with a DJ night and going through Sunday November 18th. It featured Pat Kelly (The Techniques/ The Uniques) backed by Green Room Rockers with Drop Steady on Friday, Stranger Cole backed by The Prizefigthers with Soul Radics on Saturday and The Meditations backed by The Drastics on Sunday.

Below are a few clips of the weekend and links to see more of the action.

I've been involved in the Los Angeles music scene since at least 1995 going to shows, promoting, spinning records and running labels. Ska and Early Reggae are my passion among other things of course.
